Topic: Arras Theme 1.4.2 Now Available

Arras Theme 1.4.2 is now available for download:

For those who use the auto-upgrade function in WordPress, you will have to wait a while until WordPress Themes Directory approves the release.

Please reset your theme options, clear your browser cache and restart your browser once you have upgraded your theme.

Change Log

  • Added option to set the number of words to limit in Node Based display type

  • Added option to display date and comments count in post thumbnails for archive pages

  • Added option to apply background from top of the page

  • Added option to edit 'Featured #1' and 'News' headings

  • Replaced deprecated functions

  • Aligned featured slideshow thumbnails to the center

  • Made tweaks to the theme options page (added thumbnails FAQ, notices during theme upgrade)

  • Made some tweaks for default and legacy styles (brought back boxes for node-based posts in legacy style)

  • Fixed navigation sub-menus appearing under the featured slideshow

  • Fixed custom background not appearing fully when content height is shorter than browser window

  • Fixed footer widgets' list items having equal heights

  • Fixed one column layout alignment issues

  • Fixed alignment issues in node-based display style

  • Fixed 'Hide Text' function in custom header not working properly

Nothing was done to fix the legacy node height issue?

I can fix it by setting the height via CSS but others may not be fluent in CSS.

Hey Zy, I appreciate all of your hard work on this.  This version works very well.  I also like the new default css with the transparent background feature. 

Only a minor thing, but I ran my site through an XHTML validator with this new template and there were just a few errors.  It might be a good idea to clean these up when you have a chance.  Here's the link:  http://validator.w3.org/

Unrelated, but I can't find a good subscription option widget either, the one that I currently use has like 13 XHTML errors.

Issue with node based type on the latest headlines part of the frontpage. The layout tries to cram 5-6 post on the same line when it should be 3.

Isn't this determined by the width setting of your "Featured Posts #2" thumbnail settings in the Arras Theme options? The way I understood it was that it would force however many posts it could into a row based on the width.

I am using 3 column layout and find that the right arrow in Featured Slideshow is missing. You can see it on this website (http://forumindonesiamuda.org)

It's there but you can't see it.

Change the blue part in your default.css

#controls .next            { background: url(../../images/next.png) no-repeat; float: right; position: absolute; left: 455px; }

you still have the slideshow image size and the thumbnail in single posts size being different.

this cuts off part of the image thumbnail when in a singel post

I am not comfortable upgrading from 1.3.6 yet. Sorry. :[. But thank you for a great theme! :].

Also, is there a function in the newer ones that allow your bottom content widths to be the same?

I'll do a test installation of my site on a test server to try out the new theme. I want to make sure everything will go smoothly as we have thousands of readers and downtime really hurts our traffic.

I will also wait with the upgrade, untill all bugs are fixed. This is a great theme, but it seems that the latest release came out to soon...

I just spent 3 days redoing the customizations I made after 1.4.1 came out. I'm guessing that 1.4.2 will erase everything I did again.. Is Arras Theme child-theme friendly? That way, I don't have to redo each customization for every 0.0.1 release. I don't look forward to spending another few days re-customizing 1.4.2 yet, so I'll probably pass for now.

I tried to get a child theme working with Arras but was unsuccessful. There is code in arras that is there specifically for handling child themes, but it just doesn't work for some reason (I wasn't able to figure it out at least).

Anyway, for your CSS customizations, I'd suggest overriding things in arras-theme/css/user.css rather than editing the default.css (or legacy.css) directly - that way you can easily see what you've changed and it's a *lot* easier to upgrade.

buy a copy of beyond compare or any diff merge app, easily compare directories and files between your custom edited ones and 1.4.2 default and reapply changes. I did this took ~90 mins to transport all 1.4.1 changes to 1.4.2. smile

Quick note: if you plan on using longer excerpts this won't work, then you have to set the height a bit bigger.
