Topic: hide default widgets?

Hi,

I would like to hide the three default widgets (Welcome to Arras, Recent Posts, and Tag Cloud) ... I don't want them to appear anywhere on the site. I'm using Widget Context to place my widgets wherever I want them (and it is working beautifully) BUT if I add a new post, and someone clicks on the title of the post, then it takes them to a single post page, and on that page it displays the three default widgets. Is there a way to hide them? (Sorry ... Arras is a GREAT theme but I don't want to promote it all over my website ...)

THANKS.

Re: hide default widgets?

I never really thought about hiding those particular widgets, but after thinking about it I understand why. If you study where eyes alight, or first focus on web pages, it makes sense to limit distractions that take away from what you are trying to convey. We see the same thing in billboard advertisements or direct mail, where a minimalistic design and key statement are often better than a busy graphic or plethora of information.

Did you figure this out? Due to the lack of response, I'm guessing it just might not be possible(people are really good at responding to inquiries here from my lurking experience). Maybe curtail the effects by tweaking your own design? Good luck!

Re: hide default widgets?

The only way to remove them that I'm aware of is by placing a new widget into a widget area. I'm going to recommend creating a full page post template and using that instead of the one with sidebars.
