Topic: My Epic Technology Blog! www.byterevel.com

I recently started a blog over at www.byterevel.com, and decided to go with the Arras theme. The blog is about anything relating to technology. I only have 19 posts written as of now, so don't expect THAT much content!

I only modified the theme in a couple ways:
-changed background image
-changed CSS to make sharp corners on page and on widgets curved
-logo

Blog looks really nice, you have customized the theme to much extent, and it looks even better with your work.

What did you do in order to get the sharp corners to curved?

Also, in single post view. When you scroll down, on the bottom right corner. You have 'More in Hot News', that slides in. What is the name of this plugin?

Hmmm some of the most important things I've learned are:

  • Comment on other blogs that focus on your topic (and include a link back to your blog)

  • Use feedburner for your feed

  • Use Google Analytics for your statistics

  • Post as often as you can while still maintaining quality

  • Invite people to write for your blog

  • Try to reply to each and every comment

  • Interlink your pages

  • Make sure to have a related post section on each page

  • Include social icons on each post

  • Participate in forums about your topic

Just a little update regarding my tweaks. I removed all of the shadows to the page elements, as I noticed they were kind of, well, ugly.  tongue

I installed two plugins that make provide cool widgets for recent comments and posts. If you are interested, they are called "Wizzart - Recent Comments" and "YD Recent Posts with thumbnails"

I just added 2 widgets to the footer, after figuring out that I had to set the number of columns in the Arras General settings to 2. Also, I installed a plugin that displays random quotes from a list that I made.

What is the email Plugin you got running. On side bar it says: Get Updates Sent To Your Inbox!

Ah, that isn't actually a plugin.

There is a great email and RSS subscription manager called feedburner. It's made by Google, so it's pretty stable and fully featured. Once you sign up, you can get a chunk of HTML that you paste in a text widget, and that will create the signup form.

I've tweaked the theme a little bit more.

  • New logo

  • No blog description line (I commented out that bit of HTML)

  • Changed navigation bar colors (That wasn't fun, I just mucked about in default.css)

  • Moved the search bar down a little bit

The space between the comment form and the bottom of the page was extremely tight, so I modified some of the CSS in default.css to add another 10 pixels of padding. Looks much better now!

What plugin do you use for the social media sharing at the top of your posts? I use the SexyBookmarks one and it only shows facebook and +1 and not others what do you use?
