Topic: Option to block a page from being shown on the front page

Hello,
When i make a new page, it automatically is displayed on the front page of the arras theme, this is maybe just a page i had to make because of another plugin and i don´t want my guests to view, but still it shows up on the front page, would it be possible to please put some sort of Yes/No display page on front page option when making a new page?

Either make it private or don't add it to a category that is being used in your theme options.

That doesn´t work because there are not categories for pages and second, if i make something private, my members won´t see maybe the members area i just made for them, but i didn´t want them to see publicly as it is only for logged in members and has nothing to do with the subjects being discussed on my website, that´s why i suggested this, i´ve already considered the other things you suggested, but thanx for that smile

If you are using the Wordpress 3.0 menu you can pick and choose what pages/categories are shown in your menu.

This hasn´t anything to do with the menu system, I´m talking about the "featured post # 2" on the theme which i have setup for pages, so when i publish new pages,  "featured post # 2" displays maybe restricted for members only pages (or when i publish a new game on a single page, i don´t want it to be advertised in the  "featured post # 2")  and i didn´t even want it to, but i dont´have any option to say "no" i do not want the page to be displayed in the  "featured post # 2", so if i make a members area (which doesn´t show up in the menu system because i don´t put it there and that isn´t even the issue), it is dispayd in the  "featured post # 2" and the readers of my page all of a sudden see featured post, "members" , and when they open it, their asked to sign in... i don´t want that, i only want to be able to display pages that have some content open for all or if i choose something else.

Sorry bout that. I had totally misunderstood your question, but now it will be clear to everyone. I'll leave this for a PHP theme guru to answer.

On a side note, I would assume you could use a plugin to get the job done, such as Ninja Page Categories and Tags.

Well.. i´m sorry to say, but adding a page to category doesn´t exclude the page from being displayed in the "featured post # 2", like when i create a new post, i put it in a category and tag it and it still shows up in the "featured post # 1".

What sort of modification are you using to pull pages into the theme options for "featured post # 2"? Also please provide a link to your website.

I´m using "featured post # 2" for pages, you can check it out here at www.bjorspjall.is.

Re: Option to block a page from being shown on the front page

There is something we aren't communicating correctly between each other.

Let me try to explain:
By default the Arras theme uses categories to post your content through the different content areas (i.e. Slideshow, Features 1, Featured 2.... etc.) In the theme options you can set these different areas to display posts from certain categories or by showing stickied posts. The theme does not support pages by default.

Based on your website it appears that you have the following categories: (If I'm not mistaken)
Bjór 101
Bjórmenning fréttir
Bjórmenning spjallborð
etc.

You need to set featured post #2 to one of those categories for it to show up in that content area on your homepage.

This is how the Arras theme works without and custom PHP code edits.

What I had suggested previously was that you make a private page or create a new category and put your "member" posts into that category and leave that box unchecked in the arras options. This is the solution with the default theme.

Does this make sense or am I still confused as to what your problem is?

No, i think this might work, but i still think it would be a much easier and nicer solution to just have a check box with yes or no, do you want to display page in featured post #, kind of option. But thanx all the same smile
