Topic: Play video directly from slider

I'm a new user of Arras and absolutely love the theme. I've done a fair bit of customisation on the install and now have the theme running live at www.greenandgoldrugby.com .

Our content is such that we mix analysis video's with stories, with about 50% of our articles having a youtube in addition to analysis. We've found in the past that being able to play a video directly from the front page gains a lot more traffic than when users have to click through to the permalink then play the video.

Ideally I'd like to be able to play video's directly from the slider, with the youtube preview image and play button showing directly in the slider. When the user clicks play, it starts playing right there. But this sounds quite difficult, so I'm thinking that a play button in a div positioned over the slider image, which when pressed would launch the video in a lightbox.

Any thoughts on how to achieve this? I'm happy to develop myself and share code if I get it working - would love some pointers on where to start though.

How is this done? Everytime I try it, it just comes up as a link which I press and hyperlinks to that page?
